What will the workshop cover?

This interactive one-day workshop draws on the presenters’ passion for healing the trauma of children, teens and adults. Participants will explore the integrative possibilities of play therapy approaches with established trauma protocols such as EMDR and TF-CBT.  The presenters will examine the benefits and challenges of using the core therapeutic power of play, in accessing and reprocessing implicit memories, so often involved in complex trauma in children. Whether you are a play therapist, an EMDR therapist, or both, the workshop will extend your knowledge and skills.

  • Explore the role of trauma-informed prescriptive play therapy in supporting emotional safety, and improving regulation and ‘digestion’ of the sensory, somatic and thematic elements of trauma
  • Learn a play-therapy based approach to assessing for trauma history using a therapeutic story
  • Explore the integration of play therapy with Francine Shapiro’s Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model, using play to enter the memory networks and promote healing
  • Learn  ways trauma processing can be flexibly integrated into a play therapy session, with or without EMDR
  • Identify 5 themes that may indicate post-traumatic play vs developmentally expected play
  • Learn 10 prescriptive play therapy activities to manage dissociation and hyperarousal in and out of sessions

How is this different from the 3 day workshop?

  • This forms Day 1 of a 3 Day intensive. It is stand-alone, and suitable for a broader audience. To attend the full 3 Days, participants must  have completed approved Level 1 EMDR training.  Read about the 3 day workshop here
