Use with families, groups and communities

Group EMDR is a growing and much needed resource that is both flexible and effective. Developed by Elan Shapiro, G-TEP uses a worksheet to provide the essential features of individual EMDR, but in a group setting. With an emphasis on safety and containment, the protocol provides the benefits of group connection, without sharing any disturbing material. Participants will be able to provide EMDR to groups of people who have experienced similar of different traumatic events. First developed as a way of upscaling early intervention in situations of large scale trauma, G-TEP has now been adapted to many circumstances across the world.

Create your own group program

Graduates of our training have developed EMDR G-TEP programs to suit their clients and circumstances. G-TEP can be used as a stand-alone intervention, or part of a broader therapeutic program

  • Can be adapted for use in many settings, in-patient or out-patient, for clients and/or staff, as a brief or ongoing intervention
  • Because all processing is done on a worksheet, G-TEP allows people to process trauma without sharing disturbing material
  • Has been used following a range of experiences, effecting whole communities, or specific groups, including climate disasters, terrorism, workplace trauma, physical and sexual violence, life threatening illness, culturally based trauma, and more
  • Research has demonstrated the effectiveness of G-TEP in reducing symptoms of traumatic stress and depression in as little as 2 sessions
  • Use as as stand-alone intervention or part of a broader therapeutic program
  • Able to be provided online and in-person
