Ana Gomez second of 3 masterclasses delivered especially for us!
If you have attended Ana’s training with us previously, read her books, or stayed up all night to join her live in the USA, you already know the value of her workshops. Known for her engaging, creative and practical approach, Ana effortlessly combines EMDR with a range of adjunct modalities. Participants come away inspired and informed, and able to translate her approach into their own practice.
We regularly partner with Ana, and are delighted that she is again joining us at a time that is friendly to our region. No late nights or expensive travel required!
This workshop is part two in a series of three; and can be taken alone or as a bundle and save package. Each focusses on one component of Ana’s current and ever-developing approach, as she continues to lead us in transforming how we practice EMDR.
What is the workshop about?
In this practical and creative workshop, Ana explores an issue that often creates a barrier for EMDR therapy with children affected by early and chronic trauma. In order to survive relationally in impoverished and wounding environments, children need to develop defenses and adaptations. Over time, these survival strategies become rigid and entrenched, impacting the child’s relationships, and even the therapeutic outcomes. Ana draws on her years of clinical practice with children, adults and families as she identifies theories and strategies to address trauma related phobias, defenses and adaptations. This includes attending to generational adaptations through systemic and dyadic interventions across the 8 phases of EMDR therapy.
Participants will learn a multi-modal approach to EMDR including:
- how to restore co-regulatory processes
- strategies to directly address defences and adaptations, including how to explore these with children
- interventions derived from play, sand tray therapy, and polyvagal theory that can be used in preparation and processing phases of EMDR
Who should attend?
All EMDR therapists who work with children will benefit from this workshop. For those whose young clients have experienced complex trauma, this workshop will bring hope and inspiration, as well as practical strategies. While specifically designed for those working with children and adolescents, her approach offers insights that are equally useful for therapists working with adults, particularly those who carry the wounds of childhood trauma.
